How to Dress for the Rainy Season in Paris

On average, it rains 162 days in Paris, which begs the question, how do you dress for the rainy season in Paris? It's best to dress as you normally would, and then add shoes that are waterproof such as rain boots. During the rainy season in Paris, I always carry an umbrella with me, and wear my rain jacket with a hood.

Best Boots For the Rainy Season in Paris

If you are traveling or live in Paris you'll definitely want to have a good pair of waterproof boots with you. I recently ordered a pair of Hunter boots which are perfect to wear year round, especially during the Spring time in Paris. There are other great waterproof boots available that you can purchase, from stores such as Nordstrom, Macy's or Old Navy.

What Jacket to Wear During the Rainy Season in Paris?

I highly recommend if you are traveling to Paris and you check the weather app and see rain that you pack a raincoat. I purchased multiple raincoats when I first moved to the city because you wear them so frequently. Lastly, I recommend one with a hood in case I get caught in the rain without my umbrella.

Accessories to Pack for Paris during the Rainy Season

When you are traveling to Paris, I recommend that you pack a small high quality umbrella for the city and throw it in your bag at all times. If you are caught in the rain there are people that sell those cheap umbrellas, but expect them to break after one use. With Paris, you never know when a rainstorm might come out of nowhere. Depending on where you stay the hotel might have an umbrella you can borrow, but I've run into a situation where they only have limited umbrellas and if you don't pick it up early then they run out.

The second thing I recommend packing is plastic bags for your wet boots and umbrella. If you are staying in a hotel they will definitely have this for you. If you are staying in an AIRBNB you'll want to pack plastic bags, so the apartment doesn't get wet.

Final Thoughts on Dressing for the Rainy Season in Paris

When it rains in Paris it reminds me a lot of Seattle, it will come in quickly, lightly rain for a bit, then stop. During the fall and the spring, you will experience the most rain in Paris. It seems never ending at times. On the flip side, Paris in the rain can be romantic!

Diane

  1. I just found you and am so pleased I did! You have such great style. Any chance you can share who makes your rain jacket? I have been looking for one for a long time and this is the first that has really caught my eye.

      Hello Zoe,

Thank you so much, this rain jacket is from Hunter. Just an FYI, it’s a few years old, but is still in great condition!

      Hope that helps,
