The last few months the news has been swirling about the rumor Birkin Sellier being added back to the Birkin line-up. With such exciting news, It begs the question, is this rumor true? All I know for sure, that the Birkin Sellier Bag is making a comeback at least for a short period of time and I couldn't be more excited!
Today, I’m going to be sharing with you the price of the Birkin Sellier bag, a short history, my opinions of the bag, and if I think it will make a true comeback or if it's only temporarily! At the end of the article, I’ll share some of my favorite preloved Birkin handbags!
What is a Hermes Birkin Sellier Handbag
Traditionally, a Birkin bag has what Hermes calls Retourne Style stitching which means, the stitching is on the inside of the bag giving it the rounded edges and piping is along the edges of the Birkin.
A Birkin bag that has Sellier Style stitching is the exact opposite of Retourne Stitching. Meaning, a Birkin Sellier bag has the stitching on the outside of the bag giving it a more structured look.
What is the History of the Birkin Sellier
The Birkin Sellier bag was introduced back in 2010 as a limited edition model. With the popularity growing around the Kelly Sellier bag it comes to no surprise that Hermes decided to re-release a limited edition of the Birkin Seller bag back in 2010.
With only a few in circulation the Birkin Sellier bag was reserved for VIPS, Loyal Hermes Customers, and Celebrities alike. With that being said, whenever a few did hit the secondary market or on a preloved website, the price was astronomical because of the limited nature of this bag.
Will the Birkin Sellier be added permanently to the Hermes Birkin Lineup?
Based on how much positive feedback the Birkin Sellier is accumulating since it’s re- release, my opinion is that the Birkin Sellier is here to stay. The Sellier stitching by nature giving the bag a more of a structure. Traditionally, the Birkin bag is more a casual with a softer leather. Many people often choose their Hermes Kelly bag with Sellier stitching.
How much does the Birkin Sellier Cost?
Ahh the question of the day, what is the cost of the Birkin Sellier? From what I read online, it costs $1,500 more than the Hermes Kelly bag. See pricing comparison below:

To be honest since this bag was a limited edition in 2010 and the preloved market doesn’t have an ample supply of Birkin Selliers causing the preloved market to be expensive for this Birkin model. What is the difference between the Sellier and the Retourne stitching
In short, the Sellier stitching is on the outside and gives the bag a more structured shape and the Retourne stitching is on the inside which gives the edges a more curved look.
Traditional, the Sellier stitching was used for the Kelly bag while the Retourne stitching was used in the Birkin bag… until now….
My honest opinion of the Birkin Sellier?
When I first saw the Birkin Sellier, it was love at first site. I saw that bag on instagram and I remember thinking wow, that bag will be huge. Little did I know at the time, that it was once a limited edition bag. For me, I love the look and the structure feel. If I were to get one, then I would focus on the smaller size such as the Birkin25

How to get your hands on a Birkin Sellier.
We all know that buying a Birkin bag is difficult, my guess is buying a Birkin bag with Sellier stitching is going to be more difficult. Given that it is a new hot bag that has just hit the market. My guess is it will be reserved first for celebrities, VIP customers and then trickle down.
My advice is to ask your SA (Sales Associate)! The worst they can say is no. As far as the preloved market is concerned, I think it will be a while before we see an amble supply of Birkin Sellier bags available online to purchase.
Buying a Hermes Birkin second hand
I always tell people if they want to avoid the stress of going into a Hermes store, then they should buy a Birkin bag second hand. No wait, no games, and you can get exactly what you want. Of course, expect to premium for this service. Many second hand companies offer a wide array of colors, switching and provide inventory from different years.
