I was fortunate to sit down with the wheretoget.it team and share my story. I'd love if you'd check out it out here!

I wanted to do something different and write the “behind the scenes” and how these opportunities are created.

I strongly believe in life that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. At the beginning of the year I made a list of goals I wanted to achieve. One of these goals is to be in more publications. What you may not realize is that opportunities don't just fall into my lap or get handed to me on a silver platter. Of course there are always exceptions but generally speaking you have to go after what you want.

The other day I saw the editor of wheretoget.it posted on a Facebook group. They were looking for models to do a photo shoot. My first thought was to immediately ignore it since I’m 4'11 and definitely not a model. I immediately pushed that thought out of my mind and thought well maybe I don't qualify for this modeling opportunity, but perhaps we can collaborate on something else. I decided it would be in my best interest to send her a quick message. You miss 100% of the chances you never take. After I sent her a short message, she responded back explaining how she'd love to do a piece on me. I was over the moon thrilled by the opportunity.

In my opinion, there are a million different ways to do this same sort of thing. It might be that you go to a networking event, ask to join a private group on one of the social media platforms, or randomly message someone who you want to talk to. Of course not every opportunity works out the way you hope. And the ones that do are incredible. Every once in a while I find myself in a situation I could never imagine just because I started a conversation with a stranger. It is truly amazing what can happen if you push yourself a little.
