Fonscolombe, A Magnificent Relais & Châteaux in Provence

The Château de Fonscolombe is rich of three centuries of history. It was a private property until 2017 when it was transformed into a five-star hotel, and became a member of Relais & Châteaux. History, architecture, and elegance have melded together in this spot which deserves our utmost attention.

French getaway in the south of France
Fonscolombe: The French way of life

The castle / hotel is set in the heart of Provence and was built in the 18th century. Previous owners were two gentlemen : the Marquis de Saporta and the Marquis de Fonscolombes. Both were eminent figures as botanists and scientists.

At Fonscolombes a cedar tree from the Atlas Mountains was planted by the Queen of England herself. After 18 months of restoration work and tens of millions of Euros invested, Fonscolombe Castle could open its doors : a five-star hotel that is charming.

The restaurants at Fonscolombe are worth the trip. The Orangerie and its terraces are open from breakfast to dinner, offering a fine dining experience. It is serving an authentic home-made cuisine based on the best seasonal and local produce. The Chef trained for many years with a “Meilleur Ouvrier” in France. You will taste Mediterranean fish accompanied by sun-drenched vegetables from local growers or from the Castle garden.

Feedback From other Guests

  • The stunning park where you can enjoy the nature and view century-old cedar trees while having breakfast…
  • Looking for silence and peace? You have found it at the Château de Fonscolombe, only 15 minutes away from the town
  • There’s plenty to do nearby: Aix-en-Provence is only 15 minutes away by car (where you shouldn’t miss l’Atelier de Paul Cézanne, the Granet and Caumont museums, The Vasarely foundation, and the Provencal market on Saturday mornings) and above all Silvacane abbey and Château La Coste within a 10- minute drive with its contemporary art collection. Both are a must-visit. Fonscolombe is ideally located to explore the surroundings.
covid 19 precautions at Fonscolombe

What Precautions is the Fonscolombe taking due to Covid- 19?

One of the things you may be wondering is what precautions are the castle taking during this pandemic? I reached out to local management to answer this question for you! The reopening of the property took place on July 1st and has sanitized the entire property prior to opening.

The hamman will be closed (steam and heat are too favorable to the virus). The swimming pool will be open and it's extremely sanitized environment. Masks are mandatory inside the restaurant, but as they have a gigantic park, they will set tables up around the park for people to be far from each other (which can be really nice, the park is absolutely stunning), so the mask won't be mandatory there.

The most important thing is that the guest feel safe and can enjoy Fonscolombe on their holiday.

Sincerely Petite in Paris,

Diane
