History of the Lab Grown Diamonds

Surprisingly, lab grown diamonds have been around since 1954 and were developed by GE. These lab grown diamonds weren’t actually used for gemstones, instead they were used for industrial purposes. It was this discovery that lead GE to continue its research and in 1971 they created small gemstone like diamonds and sent them to GIA to be tested. It was only under powerful microscopes the GIA gemologist were able to tell the difference.

Fast-forward to the 1980s, Lab Grown diamonds began to circulate on the commercial market. In the last 10 years have they made remarkable improvements on the process and the technology used today to make these lab grown diamonds, making it impossible to tell the difference between a natural diamond and a lab grown diamond to the naked eye.

Lab Grown Diamonds have the Same DNA as Natural Diamond

One of the most common things I hear people say about lab grown diamonds is they aren’t real, and that statement couldn’t be further from the truth. Lab Grown diamonds are absolutely real. Lab Grown diamonds have the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as natural diamonds. Plus, they exhibit the exact same scintillation, sparkle and fire.

When you go to purchase a Lab Grown Diamond, you will receive a report with the color and clarity grades, and a diamond certificate. The only difference is that lab grown diamonds are made in a lab and natural diamonds are mined, and Lab Grown diamonds are laser inscription on the griddle of the stone.
