5 Best Louis Vuitton Bags Worth Investing in
With over 400 stores world wide, Louis Vuitton is one of the most iconic, recognizable, and popular designer brands in the world today. Every time I travel to a new city, there is always a line outside the store of people waiting to get it. With that being said, today I wanted to discuss the 5 Best Louis Vuitton bags worth investing in. If this is your first Louis Vuitton bag, or even if you are expanding your collection, then this article is for you.
For me, one of my biggest fears when spending a lot of money on a designer handbag is that the bag I purchase will become outdated. For this reason, before I write any article, I do endless amounts of research on what handbags are timeless, can be passed down to future generations, and retain at least 80% of their value on the second hand market.
History of the Louis Vuitton brand
One thing I always include in my articles is the history of the brand. Louis Vuitton brand history is extremely fascinating, I could write an entire article just on the history. However, we have bags to discuss today, so I will just give you the high-level overview so you know the type brand Louis Vuitton is.
Did you know that Louis Vuitton didn’t start his career making handbags? In 1883, 16 year old Vuitton had an appredenship with Monsieur Maréchal where he learned how to make compact trunk luggage for people traveling by horse and carriage. After 17 years working under Maréchal, Vuitton left to open his own workshop, near Place Vendome in Paris. By the 1930s Louis Vuitton expanded into handbags. Many of the bags created in the 1930s are still popular today.
Now that you understand the history of the French Fashion House: Louis Vuitton, let’s go ahead and jump right into the best Louis Vuitton Bags that are worth investing in.
Louis Vuitton Speedy 25
The first bag on the list should come to no surprise to anyone… the Louis Vuitton Speedy. This bag was first introduced in 1930, yes you read that correctly 1930… over 90 years ago and it continues to be popular to this day. The Louis Vuitton speedy bag was first introduced as a travel bag. It wasn’t until 1959 when Audrey Hepburn asked Louis Vuitton to convert the original Louis Vuitton Keepall speedy into a bag you could wear everyday. AKA the Louis Vuitton Speedy 25.
The Speedy Handbag is one of the most iconic pieces Louis Vuitton offers and in my opinion definitely one of the best LV bags worth investing in. Since the Speedy 25 bag has been around for 90 years there are a ton of affordable options on the second hand market.
Style | Dimensions | Price (2021) |
Speedy 25 | 25 x 19 x 15 cm | $1,140 |
Speedy 30 | 30 x 21 x 17 cm | $1,160 |
Speedy 35 | 35 x 23 x 18 cm | $1,180 |
Speedy 40 | 40 x 25 x 19 cm | $1,200 |
It's important to note that only the Speedy 25 comes with the crossbody strap.
Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis Bag
For me The LV Pochette Metis (PM) bag was love at first sight. This bag was released in 2012, but didn’t gain popularity until 2014. By 2017, this bag was impossible to get your hands on. Many people were being turned around at the Louis Vuitton shop in Paris, Europe, and worldwide. In fact you couldn’t even order this bag online. Due to its popularity Louis Vuitton released the bag in several different colors.
Today, the bag is as popular as ever. The Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis Bag is a timeless piece that is definitely worth investing in. The most popular Pochette Metis is the monogram and can sometimes sell on the second hand market for more than the original price due to its rarity and popularity.
Style | Dimensions (L x H x W) | Price (2021) |
Empreinte Leather | 9.8″ x 7.5″ x 2.8″ | $2,420 |
Monogram | 9.8″ x 7.5″ x 2.8″ | $2,050 |
Louis Vuitton Capucines Bag
The Louis Vuitton Capucines Bag is the epitome of elegance. This Louis Vuitton bag is so timeless and chic I don’t see this bag ever falling out of style. The Capucine Bag was first spotted on Angelina Jolie back in 2013 and has only continued to gain popularity over the years. One of the things I love about the Capucine Bag is that the LV logo on the bag is extremely minimalist. Not only is the Capucine bag made by hand, but there are over 300 steps in creating this masterpiece.
The classic shape, minimalist style, and craftsmanship has earned the Capucine Bag a top Louis Vuitton bag worth investing in. The Capucine Bag has a higher price tag than a lot of the other Louis Vuitton bags, so I found a few on the second hand market that have a more affordable price. The Capucine bag is definitely one of the best Louis Vuitton bags worth investing in.
Style | Dimensions (L x H x W) | Price (2021) |
Capucines BB | 10.6″ x 7.1″ x 3.5″ | $5,100 |
Capucines MM | 12.4″ x 7.9″ x 4.3″ | $5,350 |
Capucines Mini | 8.3″ x 5.5″ x 3.1″ | $4,450 |
Louis Vuitton Neverfull
No list would be complete without the Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag. Released in 2007, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull became an instant classic. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull is nicknamed “Never Full” for the endless amount of space in the bag, and no matter how much is in it, the bag is never full.
I highly recommend the Louis Vuitton Neverfull and strongly believe it is one of the best bags Louis Vuitton offers. The LV Neverfull is one of the most popular Louis Vuitton bags of all time.
In many cases the Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM or GM is the first designer bag someone will add to their collection. (This is also the case for me) I’ve had my LV Neverfull for multiple years and continue to use it when I’m in need of a lightweight tote bag. love both the monogram canvas, and the Damier Ebene Canvas.
Style | Dimensions (L x H x W) | Price (2021) |
Neverfull MM | 12.6″ x 11.4″ x 6.7″ | $1,540 |
Neverfull GM | 15.7″ x 13″ x 7.9″ | $1,620 |
Neverfull PM | 11.4″ x 8.7″ x 5.1″ | $1,460 |
Louis Vuitton Twist
The final Louis Vuitton bag that is worth investing in is Louis Vuitton Twist. The Louis Vuitton Twist was first introduced in 2015. Over the last 6 years the Twist has only grown in popularity.
What I love about the bag is the twist open and close lock feature. To Open the bag you simply twist the LV hardware on the front of the bag. This modern, subtle bag is often compared to the Chanel due to its shape and size.
The Louis Vuitton twist bag is a great staple piece and definitely worth investing in. Let's not forget about the incredible chain straps, they are absolutely incredible.
Style | Dimensions (L x H x W) | Price (2021) |
Twist MM | 9.1″ x 6.7″ x 3.7″ | $4,150 |
Twist PM | 7.5″ x 5.9″ x 3.5″ | $3,850 |
Twist Mini | 6.1″ x 4.9″ x 2.8″ | $3,600 |
Does LV Increase their price every year?
It is important to keep in mind that Louis Vuitton follows a similar designer price increase pattern as many other popular designer brands. Meaning, every year or even sometimes twice a year, Louis Vuitton will increase the price of their timeless bags by roughly 4% – 7%. With that being said, I always stress that if you are on the fence about buying a handbag, don’t hesitate because they are known to increase the price of the handbag without much warning.
The answer is simple: Yes, Louis Vuitton does increase their price every year.
